I started my Virtual Assistant Journey writing blogs, but looking back I'm shaking my head thinking about how I used to write blogs because I honestly had no REAL idea what I was doing or trying to achieve.
I would find a topic, spit out a few facts and hope for the best. There was no real strategy or purpose for the blogs. Gosh if only I could go back and tell myself "Blogging is your secret weapon!" and after 2 years of blogging, I seriously believe it.
Now, blogging is a non-negotiable here at To Done. I feel naked without it because, for us, it's the base of our marketing strategy.
We've found a way to make it a multi-purpose tool to help with everything from content ideas, captions, stories and ways to engage with our audience.
If you've been contemplating whether a blog is worth your time, here are four reasons why your business needs a blog.
Showcase Your Expertise.
You're a small business owner, which means you're already an expert at what you do. But how would anyone know that if you don't flaunt it? Blogging gives you the perfect platform to showcase your expertise and share your industry knowledge with the world. You can offer valuable tips, insights, and even entertaining anecdotes that make your readers go, "Wow, this business owner knows their stuff!" And who doesn't love a little pat on the back now and then?
Boost Your Online Presence and encourage repeat Traffic and Engagement
Having a strong online presence is just as important as my morning coffee. By consistently creating fresh and engaging content, search engines will start noticing you. Blogs provide a steady stream of fresh, keyword-rich content that search engines love and your website will climb up those search result rankings faster than you can say "SEO." It's like magic, leading to increased visibility and more potential customers finding your business.
With a blog, you give your regular visitors a reason to come back to your website, especially if you are a service-based business, like us. By regularly publishing new content, you keep your audience engaged and create a habit of returning for more. This repeat traffic not only increases brand exposure but also provides additional opportunities for conversions and building customer loyalty.
Connect with Your Audience, because Humans Like Humans
A blog allows you to connect with your audience on a personal level. By sharing your unique voice, experiences, and stories, you humanize your brand and build genuine relationships with your readers. As trust grows, so does customer loyalty. Your blog becomes a platform for engagement, fostering a community of loyal followers who are more likely to become customers and advocates for your business.
And my favourite reason - social media!
Blogs provide valuable content to share on social media platforms. Each blog post can be promoted and shared across your social channels, driving traffic back to your website and expanding your reach. Get the most out of it including your blogs! You're a small business owner, and we know there are days when you're looking at your socials wondering what to post, and what to say. This is where blogs can help. For example, if you have a blog with 3 tips in it: -
use each tip to write a post caption.
create a reel sharing these tips and how they can help your audience., how they helped you, and what you noticed after implementing these tips. This is an easy way to create high-value reels for your audience to save.
create stories and polls to engage with your audience to see if they know these tips.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again - repurpose your content!
The power of blogging! It's not just about tapping away at a keyboard like a caffeine-fueled child playing in mum's office. It's about engaging minds and establishing your business as the talk of the town (or the internet, if you will). If you want to start blogging, but you're thinking, "Where do I even start?" We've got you covered thanks to our Blog Notepad and 'How to Write a Blog' e-guide.
